President’s, Message – January 2024
Dear Friends –
Happy New Year from the Board and volunteers at Chamber Music Kelowna. We hope your 2024 will be filled with great music!
We are looking forward to a recital by Canadian pianist Roman Rabinovich on January 27th. Please tell your pianist friends that this will be an evening not to be missed!
The Board is particularly pleased to report that the Arnold Draper Fund for Young Artists has made its first two awards to Nicholas Covaser and Sophia Friesen. See photos and bios of the inaugural recipients below! We will all have a chance to hear them in pre-concert performances before our March concert.
The Fund was established in the darkest days of the pandemic in honour of Arnold’s 80th birthday. Thanks to the generosity of almost 50 donors, it has reached the point at which the Awards Committee can be confident of CMK’s ability to fund several awards annually. Donors will receive a full written report in February.
I have heard from many of you over my five years on the Board that our subscribers and donors care deeply about the value of encouraging young people to study classical music. It has taken time and some extra effort to reach this point but I hope you will join Arnold, the Awards Committee and our Board in taking great pride in this promising program. We will continue to add to the Fund as we receive designated contributions.
With best regards –
Diane
