2023 Arnold Draper Fund Recipients:

Nicholas Covaser & Sophia Friesen

We are delighted to announce that two young artists have been selected as inaugural recipients of the Arnold Draper Fund scholarship. Congratulations to Nicholas Covaser, double bass, and Sophia Friesen, soprano!

Nicholas Covaser is an accomplished double bassist, pianist, and violinist with an interest in composition. Despite excelling in all, his passion for the double bass has earned him growing recognition. Nicholas leads the double bass section in the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra and is a regular guest performer with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. He is interested in pursuing higher education in music.

Sophia Friesen grew up in the North Okanagan with a love for musical theatre before falling in love with opera during her undergraduate studies. As a versatile and talented lyric soprano, Sophia participated in various musical ensembles and is active both on and off the stage. She is currently looking to pursue a Master’s in Opera Performance Education.

We eagerly anticipate their performances on Saturday, March 23rd, at the Mary Irwin Theatre before the concert featuring Tai Murray (violin) and Gilles Vonsattel (piano)
