President’s Message – April 2022
April 10, 2022
Dear Friends,
As the sun shines and the forsythia blooms, we look forward to gathering on April 29th for a long-anticipated performance by the Viano String Quartet, co-laureates of the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The appearance in Kelowna by these incredibly talented and accomplished young artists is the latest in a long tradition of CMK appearances by BISQC winners and we are very grateful for this wonderfully productive partnership with the Banff Centre. Sneak Peek at the 2022/23 Season
We are all very excited to tell you about the upcoming 2022-23 season which will launch on Friday October 28, 2022 with a Chopin recital by the extraordinary young Canadian pianist, Charles-Richard Hamelin. Also visiting Kelowna under the auspices of CMK next season will be the Rolston String Quartet, the Skride Piano Quartet, cello/piano duo Robert deMaine and Peter Takacs and audience favourites, the Montrose Trio. The last three of these performances are rescheduled from previously announced seasons and dates. We are thrilled that we have now rescheduled all the guest artists whose planned performances with CMK were affected by the pandemic.
Further details of the 2022-23 season will be announced next month and personalized renewal packages for all subscribers to the current season will be available at the final concert of this season on May 27th. If you are not currently a subscriber and wish to receive a 2022-23 season information package at that event, please let us know by emailing [email protected]. While renewing subscribers will receive priority (of course!) in seat selection, new subscribers’ orders will be processed in the order received.
New “Concerts in the Community” Series Launches
CMK is branching out a bit. We had an opportunity to apply for special project funding from Canadian Heritage to hire professional performers to offer additional concerts outside our main series and were fortunate to receive funding. The purpose of this program is to engage musicians – many of whom have had a lean time of it for the last two years – to provide something new and different to our community. We have put together a series of informal chamber music concerts in non-traditional venues featuring mostly local professionals. The series starts on April 14 and runs through June. We hope you will come along to one or more of these events. A listing of times/ places and performers is at (LINK) and most are “by donation”. We will be delighted to hear any comments you may have on your experience at these events so we can shape this program for future seasons.
A Gentle Reminder to Support what You Love!
We are coming up on CMK’s fiscal year end. While I’m very happy to report that our Society has come through the last two trying years in good financial shape, we hope you will consider making a donation to CMK before April 30 if you have not already done so this year. The easiest way to make your contribution is through Canada Helps with your credit card. You can designate your gift for CMK’s ongoing operations or you can support our endowment fundraising program to add to the Arnold Draper Fund for Young Artists with the Central Okanagan Foundation. We hope to see you at the performance on April 29thth!
With all best wishes,
P. Diane Bond
