President’s Message – May 2022

May 13, 2022

Dear Friends,

First, I hope you were able to be with us on April 29th for the very exciting performance by the Viano String Quartet. The Viano also restarted our in-school program with a highly successful visit to Casorso Elementary School. It was a delight – and also a relief – to again be able pursue this very important educational component of our Society’s mandate.

Details of the 2022-23 season will be announced at the final concert of this season on May 27thby Patricia Tao, our new Artistic Director (see profile below). Personalized renewal packages for all subscribers to the current season are being prepared now and you can pick them up at the pre-concert subscriber reception or at the intermission. If you cannot attend the concert, we will mail your package to you. The renewal deadline will be September 2nd.

If you are not currently a subscriber and wish to receive a 2022-23 season information package on May 27th at the performance, please let us know by emailing us at

“Concerts in the Community” Series Continues through June

If you attended the delightful short recital by Nicholas Denton Protsack (cello) and Patricia Tao (piano) in the Atrium at the RCA on April 14, you helped us launch this new initiative. The series of informal chamber music concerts in non-traditional venues, supported by Heritage Canada, continues through June 30th. Full details are below.

UBC Faculty featured in Final Performance of the Season

BC is home to many of Canada’s foremost classical music performers and a good number are faculty members at UBC’s School of Music. It is a joy to welcome Marina Thibeault (viola) and Corey Hamm (piano) to close the current season with a program featuring works by Haydn, Milhaud and Rebecca Clarke. See details about artists and program below. Given that UBC is an important and growing presence here in the Valley, we hope to find many more occasions to bring our university’s treasure trove of talent to our audiences.

If you do not have tickets to this concert, we suggest you visit the RCA’s Box Office online at for pricing and availability or call 250.717.5304.

A Word of Thanks

It’s safe to say that none of us knew last summer how the 2021-22 season would unfold given all the uncertainties of the pandemic. On behalf of our volunteer Board of Directors, I want to thank all of our subscribers and donors for sticking with us through all of the challenges and changes CMK has faced. Despite these, we have had excellent attendance at the Spring concerts and have more than achieved our fundraising goals for the year. Given that our season is running into June this year, we will hold our AGM on September 27th rather than in June. All subscribers (who are also automatically members of our Society) will receive notification well in advance.

We look forward to seeing you at the performance on May 27thth!

With all best wishes,

P. Diane Bond, President
