MEDIA RELEASE: Gryphon Trio Nov. 26/21, Matinee Performance

The Gryphon Trio returns to open Chamber Music Kelowna’s 2021-22 four-concert season at the RCA’s Mary Irwin Theatre, tickets released for matinee performance

Kelowna, BC – Chamber Music Kelowna Society (CMK) is pleased to announce the much-delayed launch of their 2021-2022 concert season on Friday, November 26, 2021. The Gryphon Trio, perennial Kelowna favourites who last appeared with CMK in February 2018, will open the season at the Mary Irwin Theatre at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in downtown Kelowna with two performances: 7:30 pm as previously announced and a newly-added matinee at 2:00 pm.

These are the first concerts CMK has presented at the RCA since public performances were suspended in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Under Interior Health restrictions capping audiences at 50% capacity, the evening performance was sold out to renewing subscribers months ago. Because these constraints have not yet been lifted as widely expected, the artists have graciously agreed to add a matinee performance to accommodate high demand to hear this internationally acclaimed Canadian piano trio.

Annalee Patipatanakoon (violin), Roman Borys (cello), and Jamie Parker (piano) comprise the Gryphon Trio. For over 25 years, they have established themselves as one of the world’s preeminent chamber ensembles, impressing international audiences with highly refined, dynamic and memorable performances. With a repertoire that ranges from traditional to contemporary and from European classicism to modern-day multimedia, including over 85 commissioned new works, the Gryphons are committed to redefining chamber music for the 21st century.

According to The Globe and Mail“The Gryphon’s musical conversations are animated and charming… It has character and detail to spare, and elegance is no small accomplishment.”

These will be the first performances by the Gryphons outside of Ontario since March 2020. They will perform a 75-minute program, without intermission, featuring beloved trios by Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.

Single tickets for the November 26th matinee at 2:00 pm are available online through the RCA website at www.rotarycentreforthearts.com, at the RCA Box Office, or by calling 250.717.5304. Ticket pricing is $48.75 (adult) and $15 (youth/student).

Existing ticketholders for the 7:30 pm show who would like to attend the matinee performance may switch at no cost by contacting the RCA Box Office by email at [email protected]. If possible, please so indicate by 5 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021 if you are making this switch.

Sales of subscriptions to the 2021-2022 CMK season were suspended in September due to pandemic restrictions but are now offered again. Three more performances by renowned Canadian and international artists, including Banff International String Quartet Competition laureates, the Viano String Quartet, are scheduled between February and April 2022. Please telephone the RCA Box Office to receive a 20% subscribers’ discount on the 4-concert series, plus other benefits.

Under current orders issued by the Provincial Health Officer, proof of vaccination is required for all in attendance and masks must be worn in the RCA. Ticket-holders are kindly asked to arrive at the theatre at least 15 minutes early to allow for verification of BC Vaccine Cards and ID. CMK volunteers will be available in the lobby one hour prior to both shows on November 26, 2021 to answer any questions.

Chamber Music Kelowna’s 2021-2022 concert season is presented by Bannister Cadillac, with the performances on Friday, November 26, 2021 being sponsored by Canada West Realty Ltd.
