Welcome CMK’s new Artistic Director, Dr. Patricia Tao BA (Harvard), MMus (Indiana), DMA (Stony Brook)

Kelowna’s magnetism as a retirement-destination is well-known, and it has brought CMK a terrific prize.  Our city is the relocation choice for former University of Alberta music professor Dr. Patricia Tao, and in a tremendous gain for our organization, she has not only joined our Board of Directors but also has agreed to serve as our new Artistic Director.

Patricia Tao leads an active life as a performer, teacher, and concert organizer. On completion of her studies in Boston, Indiana, and New York, she performed throughout the U.S. and Europe for ten years with the award-winning Guild Trio (Joanne Rile Management), and as a soloist, she toured the U.S. for Columbia Artists’ Community Concert series and overseas as an Artistic Ambassador for the USIA. She also performed for many years with Trio Voce (Jasmine Lin, violin, Marina Hoover, cello), releasing two critically-acclaimed CDs. Trio Voce’s live performances were broadcast frequently on Chicago’s classical music station, WFMT.

Having served for 14 years as Artistic Director of the Edmonton Chamber Music Society’s Summer Solstice Festival, she brings to us a wealth of experience in programming innovative concerts and collaborating with some of North America’s most distinguished soloists and chamber musicians.

Personally, our subscribers will find Patricia to be a delightful, charming, and enthusiastic presence in our musical life.  She is looking forward to expanding CMK’s activities in bringing chamber music deeper into the community, through outreach concerts, workshops, and other avenues that we look forward to exploring.  She is performing in a number of CMK’s Concerts in the Community in May and June, so please say hello and welcome her to Kelowna!
