September 26 Concert Alert

RE: October 2, 2021 concert with Marina Thibeault (viola) and Corey Hamm (piano) postponed to Friday, February 4, 2022

Dear CMK Supporters–

After months of making preparations within public health rules for our first concert of the 2021/22 season, we now encounter a hurdle of another kind. Marina Thibeault has had a biking accident and, though she has not suffered any broken bones, is under some restrictions due to a mild concussion. She and Corey Hamm have offered to postpone their performance to later in the season.

As it happens, we have also been notified of cancellation by Berlin Counterpoint of their 2022 North American tour due to their inability to qualify in time for US visas under American Covid travel restrictions. This cancellation affects their appearance in Kelowna scheduled for Friday, February 4, 2022, the third concert in our season. Marina and Corey are making themselves available to perform on this date and we have gratefully accepted.

No one likes to see carefully made arrangements fall apart and we are very disappointed. We have also been struggling with the lingering Covid-19 restriction on large gatherings, which mean we can only fill the theatre to 50% of capacity for the time being. Thanks to the enthusiasm and loyalty of our music- loving supporters, we have received more than enough subscription orders to fill the 50% maximum and Board members were preparing mentally to sacrifice our Saturday, October 2, 2021 seats to abide by the restrictions.

The Board is meeting next week and will determine what we will do to ensure that CMK subscribers have a musically rewarding season. We will also be in touch as soon as possible with the RCA to make arrangements for a pro-rata refund (20% of your subscription cost).

Our hope is that, with rates of infection declining in the Interior Health region, the restrictions will be further relaxed soon. We will keep you posted. We also look forward to our next performance on Friday, November 26, 2021 with the Gryphon Trio, by which time we trust we can all attend safely. We will also plan our traditional subscribers’ reception on that date before the performance.

We are grateful for your continued support of Chamber Music Kelowna and thank you for your understanding and patience.

With best regards and wishes for good health,
