Marmen Quartet
Sunday February 5, 2023 – 2:00 pm
CMK regrets to inform ticket-holders that the previously-announced artists for CMK’s February concert, the Skride Piano Quartet, will now be unable to appear due to difficulties with their tour logistics.
However, this unfortunate cancellation presents a very exciting opportunity for our audience. CMK will now present 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC) co-winners the Marmen Quartet on Sunday February 5 at 2:00 pm, in the Mary Irwin Theatre at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. The Quartet has now added Kelowna to its 2023 winter/spring tour along with engagements at the Heidelberg String Quartet Festival, London’s Wigmore Hall, and performances in Switzerland, Israel, and Sweden.
Formed in 2013 at the Royal College of Music in London, the Marmen Quartet has quickly established a reputation for the courage, vitality and commitment of its performances and is recognized as one of the most impressive and engaging new talents in the chamber music arena. 2019 marked a year of significant achievement for the Quartet, with First Prizes at both the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition and Banff International String Quartet Competition, where they were also awarded the Haydn and Canadian Commission prizes. Other accolades include first prize at the Royal Overseas League Competition (2018) and awards at the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition.
The program for the February 5 concert will include Haydn’s Quartet in C major, Op. 50, no. 2, and Beethoven’s Quartet in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2.
For our subscribers and single-ticket holders, your tickets for the now-cancelled February 3 concert will be honoured for the new event. If the change of date prevents you from attending you may return your tickets to the RCA box office for a refund or a donation credit. More information on the February 5 concert and the Marmen Quartet will be available on our concert page.
