Chamber Music Kelowna presents Canada’s foremost violinist and his ensemble in a special Masterworks concert.  The Ehnes String Quartet concert is a Special Event in addition to CMK’s regular 5-concert subscription season, in acknowledgement of the artists’ extraordinary stature.

The Quartet, formally established in 2010 at the Seattle Chamber Music Society, has presented chamber music together for over 20 years.  The other three members – Amy Schwartz Moretti, violin; Che-Yen Chen, viola; and Edward Arron, cello – are accomplished and recognized musicians in their own domains.  The Quartet’s award-winning discography includes quartets by Barber, Beethoven, Schubert, and Sibelius.

James himself needs no introduction to Kelowna audiences who have followed his career for many years. James is one of the world’s foremost violinists and a favourite guest of many of the world’s most celebrated orchestras and concert halls.  Recent orchestral highlights include the National Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orchestre National de France, Sydney Symphony, and Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Alongside his concert work, James maintains a busy recital schedule and is the Artistic Director of the Seattle Chamber Music Society.  He grew up in Brandon, Manitoba, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada as well as a Member of the Order of Canada.  His last appearance with CMK was in January 2020 in recital with Andrew Armstrong, piano.  He has released over 50 recordings, which have won many awards including 2 GRAMMY awards, a Gramophone award, and 11 Junos.

The James Ehnes Quartet formed in 2010 at the Seattle Chamber Music Society, where they maintain a yearly residence. The quartet’s performances have delighted audiences and critics across North America, Europe, and Asia, and have made them one of the most sought-after chamber groups performing today.

Ticket prices are $60 for confirmed adult subscribers to CMK’s 2024-25 Mainstage Season, and $75 adult/$30 student for non-subscribers.
