MEDIA RELEASE – UK Based Marmen Quartet to perform at Mary Irwin Theatre
Kelowna, BC – Chamber Music Kelowna presents the UK-based Marmen Quartet in concert on Sunday February 5 at the Rotary Arts Centre’s Mary Irwin Theatre. The Quartet is fast becoming a big name in chamber music, with a growing reputation for the courage, vitality and intensity of its performances. Formed in 2013 at the Royal College of Music in London, the ensemble has collected numerous international accolades, including being co-winners of the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC).
“The Marmen Quartet is truly a global group, with members from Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, and New Zealand,” says Chamber Music Kelowna President Diane Bond. “We are delighted to have landed a spot on its touring calendar.”
“The members of the Marmen Quartet bring an incredible depth of insight and interpretation to their performances,” says Dr. Patricia Tao, Artistic Director of Chamber Music Kelowna. “Our audience will hear pieces from Haydn, Bartók, and Beethoven from the strings of truly masterful artists.”
Besides concerts in Calgary, Kelowna, and Vancouver, the 2022/23 season will see the ensemble taking part in the Australian National Academy of Music’s Quartetthaus project, hosted in London by the Royal Albert Hall. Other highlights include a return to London’s Wigmore Hall, and the Quartet’s debut in Israel with a tour including performances in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
The Kelowna concert takes place at 2:00 pm Sunday February 5 in the Mary Irwin Theatre at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Dr. Tao will give a free pre-concert talk at 1:00 pm in the RCA’s Salloum Room. Currently, tickets to this concert are part of a special 3-concert package that CMK is offering for $150; full information is available on their website at www.chambermusickelowna.ca.
